Cetatea Alba Carolina (Alba Carolina Citadel)

Even though I’ve always been a seeker for outdoors adventures, sometimes
we all need to get back to civilization and discover a little bit more of the history our country is wearing on its shoulders for each one of us.

From time to time I like to make a different post.

I do prefer outdoors adventures but there are indoors trips which are really amazing and worth to be visited by each one of us. ✅

So today’s post it’s about you – Alba Carolina Citadel, you deserve this! – also known as the largest citadel from my country, Romania. ⚒

Alba Iulia is already known as a very important city from Romania because of its history. The citadel of Alba Iulia hides many stories about different heroes from our country (for exemple: Horea, Closca and Crisan who died being executed on a breaking wheel) and so the stronghold was split into 6 different tours, each with its own theme. ☸️

It’s nice finding out the history of your country and how it used to be years ago, but also terrifying. Who would ever think that one day they will become history and people will visit such places to read about them and their lives? It’s sad though.. 😢

One of the tours have something special, something where I find myself because of the nature vibes. There is a dendrological park with over 70 species of plants and shrubs. When you go on there, the main attractions are the Roman and Japanese gardens, which no matter what the weather is – it will always help you to relax and enjoy the landscape. 🌷

Alba Carolina Citadel together with two more fortifications were created by using remains of the Roman fort, making everything more realistic when people come here to find out about the history of their country. Visitors literally get to walk through the history, almost feeling alike with the people who lived here in those times. ⛪️

There are even lots of places where you can rest and just admire the view enjoying the good times in Alba Iulia, also known as the other capital of Romania. Everybody heard about Bucharest, but Alba Iulia has occupied many important positions in those historical times so I warmly recommend you to visit this place when you get the chance to. 👀

I hope you enjoyed this post at least as much as those outdoors adventures, and don’t forget to always appreciate the urban beauty too! 😄

Passionate about trips to less-known parts of Romania, but also have a great desire to explore some of the other countries out there
