Groapa Ruginoasa (The Rusty Pit)

Sometimes we get to travel to places that it’s hard to believe they are real, but in the end you get used with it if your journeys take you to the Apuseni Mountains from Romania that are well-known for their hidden gems.

Today’s post is about The Rusty Pit (RO: Groapa Ruginoasa) – another treasure discovered in the Apuseni Mountains from Romania. 🎴

The Rusty Pit has a depth of over 100m and width of about 600m. The center of the pit is called The Dried Valley (RO: Valea Seaca) and can be accessed only by mountain climbers.

If you look careful, in the horizons can be observed some lighter stones which are called The Yellow Stones (RO: Pietrele Galbenei).

After all the beauty you see in the picture there is the Flower Glade (RO: Poiana Florilor) – a very peaceful and relaxing place. 💮

The Rusty Pit is a real wound in the heart of the mountains which was created by the torrential erosion, which is very active in deposits of quartz, red clays but also frescos. All this madness formed such a beauty which is a protected area of national interest that make you feel like you step into a completly different world. 🌄

The way up to this fantastic place is a 40-mins-long route which includes many stones you have to climb but also a nice walk on the valley once you get closer to the pit.

The altitude is about 1400 m. 🌠

Passionate about trips to less-known parts of Romania, but also have a great desire to explore some of the other countries out there
